Charity Policy

The Wingate Centre

The Wingate Special Children’s Trust is an independent charity devoted to enriching the lives of children and young people with all levels of physical and learning disability or who are disadvantaged. Based at the Wingate Centre near Nantwich, Cheshire, our site comprises a 23-bedroom specialised accommodation facility and a 7,000 square foot, fully-fitted gymnasium. This combination of facilities is unique and complementary as gymnastics is particularly helpful to people with disabilities as it helps develop core physical, cognitive and emotional skills and develops self-esteem through achievement, encouragement and recognition.

Established in 1988 by parents of children with a range of disabilities who had learned to appreciate the benefits of gymnastics for their children, the Trust has since evolved into a national centre attracting visitors from special and mainstream schools, voluntary organisations and support groups both locally and nationally.

Their 23-bedroom short break residential centre can accommodate up to 48 children and carers at any one time. With the extensive range of equipment that they now have on site, the Centre is able to cater for children with multiple and profound disabilities as well as those who demonstrate challenging behaviour. At the Wingate Centre, everyone is able to enjoy a holiday with their friends.

Local Charity Events

At our discretion, charity requests for local fundraising events may be considered.

Any fundraising requests must provide a letter headed document from the charity you are supporting, which authorises you to raise money on their behalf. The letter headed document from the charity must have your full name and also have the charity number and address on it. Please ensure that the covering letter or email states your full name and address.

If you are not fundraising for charities that fall within our policy, then we are not able to support you.

Successful charity requests will receive two Day Ticket vouchers.

If you do not receive a response from us within three weeks, then unfortunately your request has been unsuccessful.

We have decided to support two major charities, and a few causes very local to us in our immediate neighbourhood.

Our chosen charities

Autism Anglia is a registered charity that promotes the welfare, education and care of children, young people and adults with autism in the East of England and in doing so, provides support and assistance to their families and carers. They provide a range of services to enable people with autism to live as independently as possible and to experience choice and inclusion in society.

Our clever author, Tom Blofeld, is Vice Chairman of Autism Anglia and thinks that it’s a fantastic charity!

EACH. We will also support any requests that come through on behalf of EACH -East Anglia's Children's Hospices, which is a registered charity that cares forchildren and young people with life threatening conditions and complexhealthcare needs.

Other Autism Charities. If you are or are raising money for a registered charity that supports people with autism then, at our discretion, we may offer our support.

Local Charity Events. At our discretion, charity requests for local fundraising events may be considered.
